ABOUT GFGM

ɡaˈstrɒnəmi/
noun
  1. the practice or art of choosing, cooking, and eating good food.

Good Food, Good Mood was established after I realised how often I was asking myself the difficult question of "Where and what should we eat today?". The Melbourne food scene truly makes us spoilt for choice, so I am hoping my honest reviews can act as a guide for any occasion - from cheap eats to fine dining, to burgers and pizza on cheat days, to fresh and healthy on cutting days. Recommendations on places to try and review are always welcome, just leave a comment.

All photos are taken with my Samsung Note 4 or Sony NEX-F3 unless stated otherwise. Thanks for dropping by!

P.S. Shoutout to my friends and family who dine with me - thanks for not picking up your cutlery when the food comes out so I can take all my food photos... y'all know my camera eats first haha.

Breakfast Thieves on Urbanspoon

Driving to Breakfast Thieves that afternoon felt like a long rollercoaster. It wasn't because it was a far journey but because Sarah and I were recovering from a big night at Alumbra (but in all honesty, when isn't it a big night?). We had our shades on even though it was cloudy and water was our best friend for the day. We had arrived at 2:58pm and the waiter advised us we had TWO MINUTES TO ORDER SOMETHING before the kitchen closed. I felt so panicked but fortunately I had arrived there knowing what I wanted to order (Thanks to @deancyle's instagram photo of boiled eggs with muesli).

Plain plants on the table. I really hate sitting on benches / stools because it reminds me of how bad my posture is. I also don't like it when there are no hooks to hang your jacket or bag on.

Chai tea! My favourite. I was going to order another coffee to keep me alive since we were going out again that night but I decided against it.

The Breakfast Chain - $17.50
WHAT A CUTE COMBINATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never seen anything like this anywhere else in my life. From left to right: cheese covered toast, mixed berry yoghurt with muesli, two soft boiled eggs and warm apple and peach crumble. UMMM??? HEAVEN MUCH? The yoghurt was SO SOUR until I mixed it up with the berries at the bottom so the taste was more bearable. The two soft boiled eggs were surprising because the insides were gooey. I was expecting it to be hard inside (because I didn't read the menu properly). All the components would be so easy to assemble at home but it would be extremely time consuming and considering I wake up at 6am for work... aint nobody got time for that.

The Legend - $18
Spicy baked eggs with spanish chorizo, roasted mushrooms, green peas, feta served with herbed garlic toast.
Sarah ordered the baked eggs and to be honest, I have had many baked eggs in my life time and this was wayyyyy too runny and not well cooked. To be fair, the kitchen was two minutes away from closing so the chefs were probably annoyed that they still had to cook (sorry). Lucky I had my cheese "soldiers" that I dipped into Sarah's dish for more flavour. Presentation was lovely and I loved how it was served on wood boards.

I love eating chocolate but my personal trainer will probably crack the shits if she knew I was having more than one cheat day a week hehe.

These cabinets were filled with sweets before I took this photo. They just put it away in containers because the shop was closing. We were SO LUCKY that we arrived no later than 3pm. Keep that in mind if you're planning on paying a visit so you are not disappointed. I love that Breakfast Thieves is so close to my uni. I would strongly recommend this place for brunch... it wasn't rated 91% on Urbanspoon for nothing ;)
